The “Sea Design Award” 2025 is the first international competition dedicated to the nautical sector organized by the Liguria Design Cultural Association, aimed at students, young graduates and new professionals under 30 from all over the world. The competition, now in its fourth edition, has grown quickly, establishing itself as a point of reference for the nautical sector and addressing the many young people in the world who, with their innovative ideas, are approaching a sector in strong growth and rapid change, also according to the latest global trends related to sustainability, innovation and environmental impact. We need design projects linked to the world of the sea capable of looking to the future, courageous and futuristic projects.

What are we looking for

We are looking for projects related to the great themes of the sea, without particular restrictions related to the category of product or service sought but united by the relevance to the nautical sector. It will therefore be possible to present for example a boat, a product, a service, an innovative system, a project related to the protection of the marine environment or related to the world of disability in aquatic contexts, solving with proposals related to design, problems related to everyday life in this sector.

Guidelines

For the correct development of your projects, take the following guidelines into consideration:

The Sea Design Contest has three categories:

- Nautical Design: yachts, super yachts, motor boats, sports boats, dinghies, sails, etc. up to futuristic boats, new boat solutions and concept yachts.

- Industrial Design: bollards, on-board instruments, diving fins, diving masks, kayaks, aqua scooters, buoys, innovative nautical materials, boat furniture, objects, products for fun in the water, technical clothing, beachwear, etc..

- Design for All: projects dedicated to the world of disability in aquatic contexts, social services in the marine/outdoor world, products and services for all those who live with difficulty due to disability on board a boat or on land and on beaches 'Marine environment.

- Landscape Design: projects dedicated to the design and management of open spaces to create urban and coastal environments linked to the sea, beaches, ports and more, may include architecture and urban planning assessments.

-Interior Design: In this case we mean the design of the interiors of yachts and boats in general, or of properties by the sea, beaches, beach bars, etc.
All projects that take into consideration aspects related to sustainability, innovation, functionality, refinement of materials and aesthetics, and which show particular attention to care in presentation, will be evaluated with a higher score.

Evaluation criteria

for the evaluation of the entries, the jury will take into account the following criteria:
- Degree of innovation
- Sustainability
- Functionality
- Aesthetic quality
- Project presentation

Participation rules

1- Participation is limited to: students and/or recent graduates who have completed their university course between 2020 and 2024 and/or young new professionals born no earlier than 1995, i.e. turning 30 in 2025.

Required materials

Send us: (both individually and in groups with the same information for everyone, indicating a person in charge who will follow up by email for communications)

- Name, surname, age, current university or origin/degree.

- Detailed description of the project (between 10 and 20 lines, no more) and a series of images to best present your projects.

- Instagram profile.

- The images (minimum 5, maximum 10) must have a good resolution for the web; allowed files: .jpg, .gif or .png; color mode: RGB; maximum size of a single file: 1MB.

(Send the same 5/10 images to us in a separate folder, in square format, without writings/logos/names, because if you win they will be used to promote you on Instagram)

Jury

In the months preceding the Tigullio Design District, two different juries will be involved in evaluating the projects received.
A jury of professionals from the Liguria Design Cultural Association will create a first selection and assign a vote to the projects, which will be worth 50% of the final vote, a final vote that will be completed by a second jury of experts who will offer the other 50% of the score value.
The winners will be notified by mid-March privately, and then announced publicly on the first day of the Tigullio Design District, April 7, 2025 on the website: www.tigulliodesigndistrict.com and from that moment on promoted on the social networks of Tigullio Design District / Liguria Design, as well as promoted to the press.
